About this event

I have the privilege of presenting an insightful overview of the Uganda UK Convention (UCUK), an eminent initiative established in 2010. This prestigious convention has been instrumental in championing economic empowerment and fostering sustainable development throughout East Africa. Initially concentrating its efforts on Uganda, the UCUK has adeptly expanded its scope, establishing itself as an indispensable platform for promoting international trade and cooperation within the broader East African region.

In an esteemed partnership with the East African Summit, The India Overseas Trust and the UCUK proudly hosts the most prominent business summit in the United Kingdom focusing on East Africa. This illustrious annual summit is renowned for its unwavering commitment to attracting investments into East Africa, strategically targeting specific markets each year to enhance and expand exports.

This endeavor is crucial in reinforcing the partnership between East Africa and the United Kingdom, thereby marking a significant advancement towards our shared aspiration of sustained economic prosperity.

The summit's strategic design is underpinned by three fundamental objectives aimed at intensifying UK-East Africa collaboration:

  • The enhancement of partnerships to stimulate job creation and economic growth.
  • The encouragement of innovation and the exchange of expertise, with a particular emphasis on augmenting the export of Ugandan agricultural produce to markets in the United Kingdom, Europe, and the Commonwealth.
  • The generation of investment opportunities in pivotal sectors, including but not limited to, Oil and Gas, Education, Science and Technology, and Agriculture and Food Security, thereby facilitating diverse socio-economic development.

Since its inception, the UCUK has evolved into a paramount forum for business networking, the exchange of knowledge, and the establishment of strategic partnerships, driving substantial socio-economic progress across East Africa. The convention annually attracts an illustrious array of stakeholders, ranging from pioneering innovators and astute investors to distinguished government officials, all united in their commitment to the prosperity of the region. Its comprehensive agenda includes high-level discussions, networking opportunities, and workshops aimed at enhancing trade capacity, all meticulously curated to foster investment and collaborative growth.
